Thomas “Tom” Jay Griggs is a native of Iowa. After graduating from law school in the Twin Cities, Tom, his wife Joyce, and their infant son moved to Arizona. Tom was attracted to not only the weather, but also the people of Arizona. Arizona is a place where people are friendly and the entrepreneurial spirit runs deep. Tom enjoys working with the Firm’s clients.

Tom has been admitted to practice law in the State of Arizona since 1981. He has been a Board Certified Specialist in Family Law by the State Bar of Arizona since February 1993. He served as Judge Pro Team of the Maricopa County Superior Court Family Law Division for a period of 20 years (1989 through 2009). He has been designated as a Southwest Super Lawyer in Family Law for 2008, 2009, 2010, 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017. Tom is a fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (President, Arizona Chapter 2011-2013). He has received the highest rating of “AV” by Martindale Hubbell since 1995. He is designated as a Senior Counsel (Fellow) of the College of Master Advocates and Barristers.

Tom is a former member of the Continuing Legal Education Committee of the State Bar of Arizona, as well as the State Bar Family Law Rules and Procedure Committee. He has been a faculty member of various Family Law Seminars sponsored by the National Business Institute over the years. Tom has been a presenter at the Arizona Family Law Institute for seminars conducted each January for 2010-2017. He co-chaired the event in 2012, 2013, and 2014. Tom also has served as the attorney team member for the teams participating for the Arizona Commission on Judicial Performance Review in 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014, and 2016. Tom is a member of the United States Supreme Court Historical Society. He is also a member of Phi Alpha Delta Legal Fraternity. Tom is a graduate of Mesa Leadership and Training.

Tom was appointed to the State Bar Antitrust Task Force for 2015. He is the chair of the Board of Legal Specialization for the State Bar of Arizona. Tom and co-chair M. Paul Fischer successfully represented the Appellee in the Court of Appeals Division One reported case of Flower v. Flower, 223 Ariz. 531,225 P.3d. 588 (2010).

In the non-legal setting, Tom has served on various committees of Dove of the Desert United Methodist Church. He serves as the chair of Church Council for Dove for 2016-2018. In 2016-2017, he served by the appointment of the Peoria City Council as a member of the Peoria Board of Adjustment. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Arrowhead Shadows Homeowner’s Association and currently serves as President of the Board.

Tom Griggs believes that his background and experience can assist those going through the family law litigation process. He firmly believes that no matter how contested or emotional, family cases can be handled in a calm and thoughtful manner. Each person involved in the family law process has a right to expect to be treated in a civil and professional manner. Each person involved in the family law process has a duty to treat everyone else in the process in a civil and professional manner.
